A native of Canada, I moved to the United States as a very young child. Early memories of receiving a Little Red Notebook from my mother and taking my very first piano lessons with... John Thompson’s... “Teaching Little Fingers To Play," another Red ‘Note’ Book may explain why I chose “Notes ’n Quotes”: Hugs From Heaven for the title and color of the book. The birth of my book not only began with happy memories of receiving The Little Red Notebook, but with the kind words of a friend... and my mother who each suggested that I write a book – within the very same week – the last few days of September 1999 and the first week of October 1999. I warmly remember my friend's words, “...You have a gold mine here….” Their enthusiasm and encouragement gave me the spark I needed... to put pen to paper with the goal of creating a Little Red Quote Book. Those few short words took me on a fourteen-year journey of much reflection - searching for the right words - with hopes of touching many hearts.... Long after... we are too big to be carried in our mother's arms, she carries us in her heart forever......
Raised in a family of talented musicians, the cadence and rhythm of words was very instrumental in orchestrating/arranging my writing. Each morning I asked myself, “What will this day teach me?” Many thoughts/questions delivered insight and messages that found their way into my book. Challenged with a hearing impairment most of my life..., I learned to listen... beyond what I heard. Empathy invites compassion, listening with our heart, listening to understand. We all... Smile, Laugh, Cry and Hug in the same language. Living to learn and learning to live comes to my mind. There is so much to learn, so much to share with others. I enjoy writing, love playing the piano and singing, composing and writing music. Loved playing on women's/men's softball teams in my time. Working or playing, we discover who we are through our interactions with others. Whether a parent or child, student or teacher, we have each been assigned tailor-made workbooks. What are we working on, working through and working out...? I am grateful for family and the teachers who inspired me. Reflecting on my first piano lesson, 'Birthday Party' makes me Happy.
